Buffaloes Win Inaugural Women’s Super League With Three Games to Spare
Green Buffaloes Women Football Club have won the Inaugural edition of the FAZ Women’s Super League in scintillating style after humbling Nkana Queens 5-0 in their Week 24 fixture at Green Square Ground in Lusaka.
In-form striker Theresa Chewe struck a hat-trick after goals from captain, Joanna Benaya in the eighth minute and Natasha Nanyangwe 14 minutes later to see off the league with three games left to play.
Chewe, who now has 27 goals, opened her account from the penalty spot in the 25th minute and she made it four for the Army Sponsored side in the 47th minute before she completed her hat trick – her fourth of the season – in the 73rd minute.
She will now have to fight for the prestigious Top Scorers’ Award with Red Arrows striker Grace Chanda, who netted five goals in the 9-0 win over Mufulira Wanderers to take her seasonal goals to 32.
The Charles Haalubono coached Buffaloes side have conquered the league with an unassailable 59-point lead, wrapping up the title with three matches still to play as Red Arrows remain second on 51 points and ZESCO United Ladies in third place with 48 points.
Buffaloes’ opponents in the day’s game, Nkana, remain bottom of the table with six points after 23 games played.
