Chipolopolo Players Abroad- Weekend Roundup
A wrap-up of weekend performances by Chipolopolo and Copper Queens stars playing in various leagues across the African continent and beyond.
Denmark – First Division
Chipolopolo midfielder Lubambo Musonda put up an impressive shift in AC Horsens’ 6-1 bashing of Fremad Amageris in Round 15 of the Danish First Division. It was a perfect response from Horsens who were coming from two consecutive defeats to net six in front of their home supporters at the CASA Arena in Horsens. Musonda, completed the match and assisted two of the six goals.
England – Premier League
Midfielder Enock Mwepu was subbed-off for Alexis Mac Allister at the start of the second half in Brighton and Hove Albion’s 1-1 draw with Newcastle United. Leandro Trossard had put Albion ahead from the penalty spot in the 24th minute before Isaac Hayden levelled for Newcastle on 66 minutes.
At the Elland Road in Leeds, striker Patson Daka was unused as Leicester City came from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Leeds United in a week 11 affair.
Democratic Republic of Congo – Vodacom Ligue 1
TP Mazembe’s fine run in the Vodacom Ligue 1 continued as they cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Lubumbashi Sport to move to the summit of the league on a better goal difference over Lupopo. Defender Tandi Mwape started the match and was replaced by countrymate Kabaso Chongo in the 59th minute.
Israel – Premier League
Maccabi Petach Tikva suffered their second consecutive loss in the Premier League, losing 3-0 at home to Beitar Jerusalem in Week nine. Midfielder Lameck Banda featured for 90 minutes for Maccabi who now have nine points from nine matches played and are 10th on the log.
Morocco – Botola Pro Inwi
Clatous Chota Chama put in a full shift for RS Berkane who came from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Difaâ Hassani El-Jadidi in Round 10. The draw leaves Berkane stuck on fifth place with 16 points from 10 matches.
Sweden – Allsvenskan
Striker Edward Chilufya scored his second goal in five matches when he struck the winner for Djurgardens IF in their 1-0 win over Halmstads BK in week 27. Edward Chilufya paved way for Nicklas Barkroth in the 90th minute. Midfielder Emmanuel Banda made the bench but was not involved. Djurgardens have 53 points, one behind leaders Malmo with three matches left to play.
Russia – Premier League
Arsenal Tula were held to a goalless draw by FC Ufa at the Arsenal stadium in Tula. Midfielder Klings Kangwa, who was presented with the goal of the month award prior to the Week 14 fixture, featured for the entirety of the match. Teammate Evans Kangwa saw 76 minutes of action before he was replaced by Zuriko Davitashvili.
Scotland – Scottish Premiership
Chipolopolo striker Fashion Sakala was fully involved as Rangers came from a goal down to beat Ross County 4-2 in Week 13 of the Scottish Premiership to maintain their four-point lead at the top of the table. Rangers have 30 points, four better than second placed Celtic heading into the international break.
South Africa – DStv Premiership
Chipolopolo midfielder Augustine Mulenga scored a brace in AmaZulu’s 2-0 win over Cape Town City in the DStv Premiership. Mulenga opened his and Usuthu’s account in the 24th minute before striking sweetly again with a beautifully taken goal in the third minute of additional time in the first half to hand Amazulu their second win in five matches.
In the Soweto Derby, Lazarous Kambole was not involved in Kaizer Chief’s 2-1 win over rivals Orlando Pirates at the FNB stadium in Johannesburg. The win took Chiefs to 15 points, 10 behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
At Parow Park, home of Stellenbosch FC in Parow, Nathan Sinkala played the entire match in the goalless draw with Golden Arrows. Despite the draw, Stellenbosch are now unbeaten in 15 matches in the DStv Premiership.
Goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata kept a clean sheet for Sekhukhune United in their 1-0 win over Moroka Swallows. At the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein, Royal AM drew 1-1 with Baroka FC who had Chipolopolo goalkeeper Mwenya Chibwe on the bench.
Spain – Spanish Segunda Division Pro
Substitute Rachael Nachula scored the winner for Zaragoza CFF in their 4-3 win over CE Seagull Badalona in the Spanish Segunda Division Pro (Reto Iberdrola). It took the Copper Queens striker only five minutes to score the goal, after she was introduced in the 78th minute. Teammate Hellen Mubanga replaced two goal star Andrea Alvarez in the 85th minute.
