A wrap-up of weekend performances by Chipolopolo and Copper Queens stars playing in various leagues across the African continent and beyond.
Denmark – First Division
Midfielder Lubambo Musonda is expected to be in action on Monday night as AC Horsens take on HB Køge in week 14 of the Danish First Division.
England – Premier League
Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Enock Mwepu registered his name in the history books with his spectacular debut Premier League goal coming against Liverpool at Anfield stadium, the club he grew up supporting and stadium he dreamed of playing in one day. The Reds were 2-0 up courtesy of goals from Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane, but Mwepu halved the deficit four minutes before the break before Leandro Trossard levelled matters in the 2-2 draw.
At the King Power stadium, two quick goals by Gabriel and Emile Smith Rowe condemned Patson Daka’s Leicester City to their first loss in six matches in all competitions. Daka was introduced in the 70th minute in place of midfielder James Maddison as the Foxes now turn their focus to Thursday’s UEFA Europa League Group C home match against Spartak Moscow.
Democratic Republic of Congo – Vodacom Ligue 1
Defenders Kabaso Chongo and Tandi Mwape started for TP Mazembe as the Ravens beat AS Simba Kamikaze of Kolwezi 2-0 at the Stade TP Mazembe in Kamalondo. Goals from Merceil Ngimbi and Jean Baleke were enough to send Mazembe to second position on the table with 12 points, one behind leaders Lupopo.
Israel – Premier League
Midfielder Lameck Banda completed 90 minutes as Maccabi Petach Tikva narrowly lost 1-0 to Hapoel Katamon in a Round 8 tie. Maccabi are eighth in the 14-team log with nine points after eight matches played.
Morocco – Botola Pro Inwi
RS Berkane returned to winning ways following their 4-1 win over Ittihad Tanger. Clatous Chota Chama assisted the fourth goal and Brahim El Bahraoui’s second goal of the day. Chama was replaced by Camara in the 78th minute.
Sweden – Allsvenskan
Midfielder Emmanuel Banda scored the only goal as Djurgardens IF kept their title winning ambitions alive with a 1-0 over Örebro SK in a round 24 fixture. Banda was substituted for Curtis Edward in the 46th minute while his country and teammate, Edward Chilufya paved way for Nicklas Barkroth in the 73rd minute.
Djurgardens have 50 points and a point behind leaders Malmo with four matches left to play.
Russia – Premier League
Midfielder Kings Kangwa provided an assist for teammate Evans Kangwa but the goal was not enough as Arsenal Tula registered their second consecutive Premier Liga loss at the hands of FC Sochi in Week 14.
Sochi went ahead inside two minutes through a Mateo Cassierra goal before Klings and Evans produced a goal made from Zambia to level matters the 65th minute. But the Colombian Cassierra completed his brace and Sochi’s winner on 79 minutes that made it seven losses for Tula after 13 games.
Scotland – Scottish Premiership
Chipolopolo striker Fashion Sakala scored his first career hat-trick as Rangers thrashed Motherwell 6-1 in a week 12 match. The first of Sakala’s three goals came in the 45th minute when his bullet header from a James Tavernier went past Liam Kelly to give Steven Gerrard’s men a 2-1 lead.
The former KV Oostende hit-man then shot from distance to make it three before he made completed his hat-trick at the back post to send visiting Rangers fans into wild celebrations. The win sent Rangers four points clear at the top of the table with 27 points after 12 matches played.
South Africa – DStv Premiership
There was no action in the DStv Premiership this past weekend but there will be plenty of it across various stadia tomorrow and Wednesday for Zambian players plying their trade in South Africa.
South Africa – MTN 8
Goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene collected his winners medal as Mamelodi Sundowns beat Cape Town City 3-2 on post-match penalties at the Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban. Mweene made the bench deputizing Ugandan Denis Onyango for Masandawana.
Spain – Spanish Segunda Division Pro
Copper Queens striker Rachael Nachula opened her new season scoring account with Zaragoza CFF in the 4-1 loss at the hands of Athletic Club de Bilbao in the Spanish Segunda Division Pro (Reto Iberdrola).
Nachula had earlier hit the crossbar before she scored a leveller from a Haley berg assist in the 20th minute as the two teams went into the break at 1-1.
Athletic Club came back the stronger side and added three goals to win 4-1 on the day. Nachula’s countrymate, Hellen Mubanga replaced Berg in the 83rd minute as Aragonese suffered their third consecutive defeat that left them 12th on the log with 7 points.
Tanzania – NBC Premier League
Midfielder Rally Bwalya started for Simba Sports Club in their goalless draw against Coastal Union in the Round 4 encounter. Simba now have two wins, two draws and are fourth in the 16-team table with eight points, four behind leaders Young Africans (Yanga).
Still in Dar es Salaam, George Lwandamina’s Azam FC suffered their second loss of the 2021/22 season when were beaten 2-0 by leaders Yanga. Paul Katema and Rodger Kola started the match.
