Belemu Ready For Malawi AWCON Qualifier

Zambia Women National Team defender Margaret Belemu says the team is geared to face Malawi in Wednesday’s 2022 Morocco Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Copper Queens will be away at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe tomorrow in a 15:00hours kick-off before hosting the Scorchers in the return leg on 26 October at Nkoloma stadium.

“We have prepared very well for the match and the 2021 COSAFA Women’s Championship was a very good preparation for the team,” the Red Arrows right-back said.

“Malawi has improved so much and we are expecting a tough game but I know that in as much as they have improved, we also came from the (Tokyo 2020) Olympics and people are expecting a lot from us so it will be a very tough game.”

Winner over both legs will face either Tanzania or Namibia in the second and final qualifying round of the AWCON qualifiers.

“We have never won the Africa Cup so our main target is to qualify to the Africa Cup and win the title. At senior level, we have never been to the World Cup so that’s our main target,” Belemu said.
