Nali Wary of Fire from the Scorchers in AWCON Qualifier
Zambia Women National Team goalkeeper Hazel Nali says the Copper Queens are wary of the threat posed by the Scorchers of Malawi in the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) first round qualifier.
The Scorchers host Zambia on October 20 before a return leg match set for Nkoloma stadium six days later, and Nali admitted that the back-to-back games will not come easy for the 2021 COSAFA Women’s Championship bronze medallists.
“Everyone is expecting a tough game because every team is improving and being an AWCON qualifier match, every team wants to be at the tournament so we will take every game serious,” the Israel-based goalkeeper said.
“We are very much ready, and we just need to qualify to the AWCON without any negotiations.”
Nali joins a Copper Queens camp bolstered by their podium finish at the COSAFA, and the former Green Buffaloes goalminder is impressed with the levels of hard work from all players.
“So far so good and everything is okay (since I joined the team), the girls are in high spirits especially coming from the COSAFA tournament and I feel everyone is happy and excited for the AWCON qualifiers,” Nali said.
“I would urge our fans to continue supporting us because it’s only their support that will keep us preforming and getting the results we need.”
