Copper Queens Set To Face-off Against Stars In Semi-final Clash

Zambia this afternoon takes on guests Tanzania in the semi-finals of the 2021 COSAFA Women’s Championship at Nelson Mandela Bay stadium in Gqeberha.
The match kicks-off at 12:00hours and will be live on Supersport Channel 229 Variety 4 and and will be followed by another semi-final clash involving hosts South Africa and Malawi.
The Copper Queens progressed comfortably from Group C after recording three wins out of three matches against Eswatini (5-0), Namibia (3-0) and Uganda (1-0), and meet a Twiga Stars side that posted a 100 percent record in Group B against their opponents in Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Sudan.
This year’s campaign for the 2019 finalists has been on the back of a solid defence and a general team effort, something that the Twiga Stars also possess as they are yet to also concede a goal.
Ngambo Musole is likely to start in goal after keeping two out of three clean sheets and so is the backline of Margaret Belemu, Lushomo Mweemba, Agness Musesa and either Mary Mulenga or Vast Phiri on the left.
The hardworking Mary Wilombe, who got on the scoresheet in the 3-0 win over Namibia, is expected to cover ground in midfield alongside Avell Chitundu, Milika Limwanya, and Penelope Mulubwa.
Elizabeth Mupeso is also a contender for a starting XI after she was handed a start against Uganda. Thandiwe Nkhata and Esther Namukwasa also ready to stake their claim with skipper Grace Chanda right behind Ochumba Oseke Lubanji.
Tanzania are expected to rely on the services of attacking midfielder Stumai Athuman, who joined Lubanji and Botswana’s Refiloe Tholakele in the race for the Golden Boot award.
Donisha Minanja, Diana Msewa, Mwanahamisi Shurua are also likely to start in attack as the East Africans chase their first COSAFA Women’s Championship final since making their debut in 2011.
