A wrap-up of weekend performances by Chipolopolo players playing in various leagues across the African continent and beyond.
Sweden – Allsvenskan
Djurgardens IF suffered their first loss in five games after losing 1-0 in AIK in a week 22 fixture. Striker Edward Chilufya completed the match while midfielder Emmanuel Banda was an unused substitute. Despite the loss, Djurgardens still remain top of the Allsvenskan thanks to their better goal difference.
Scotland – Scottish Premiership
Fashion Sakala was not involved as Rangers came from a goal down to beat Hibernian 2-1 in a round eight tie. Steven Gerrard’s men are top of the table with 19 points, one better than second placed Hearts heading into the international break.
England – Premier League
Striker Patson Daka was an unused substitute as Leicester City surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Crystal Palace in Week seven of the English Premier League. Midfielder Enock Mwepu (injury) was not involved in Brighton and Hove Albion’s goalless draw with Arsenal.
Russia – Premier League
Midfielder Klings Kangwa featured for 67 minutes before being replaced by Ayaz Guliev in the 0-0 draw with FK Khimki in a week 10 encounter. Striker Evans Kangwa was not involved.
Denmark – First Division
AC Horsens drew 0-0 away at Hvidovre in Round 11 of the 1st Division with midfielder Lubambo Musonda seeing 87 minutes of the action before he paved way for 20 year old defender Mikkel Lassen. Horsens are third on the log with 20 points, four behind leaders FC Helsingor.
Democratic Republic of Congo – Ligue 1
TP Mazembe defender Tandi Mwape played the entire match as the Ravens beat Generation Blessing FC 1-0 to move second of the Vodacom Ligue 1 table. Midfielder Rainford Kalaba was introduced in the 55th minute after replacing Bossu. Mazembe have six points, one behind leaders Don Bosco.
South Africa – DStv Premiership
Sekhukhune United goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata continued with his impressive form as he was again voted man of the match – this time in the 1-0 win over TS Galaxy.
At Supersport United, Gamphani Lungu played the remaining 31 points after coming on for Jamie Webber in the goalless draw with Chippa United.
There was good news at Amazulu as midfielder Augustine Mulenga returned from injury to feature for 25 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Kaizer Chiefs. Mulenga replaced Luvuyo Memela. Benni McCarthy’s side had led for 95 minutes before Keagan Dolly levelled from the penalty spot with the last kick of the game.
At Stellenbosch FC, midfielder Nathan Sakala played the entirety of the match in the 1-1 draw with Baroka FC at the Peter Mokaba stadium. Despite not winning the match, Stellenbosch remain unbeaten from six games having registered three wins and three draws.
Striker Mwape Musonda played 69 minutes for Moroka Swallows before he was replaced by Kagiso Malinga in the 3-0 loss to leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. It was Swallows’ third defeat of the league in six matches.
Morocco – Botola Pro Inwi
RS Berkane finally registered their first win of the season after four straight draws. Midfielder Clatous Chota Chama played 58 minutes before he was replaced by Mohamed Farhane in the 2-1 win over rivals Raja Club Athletic. The win takes them to sixth place with seven points, six less than leaders Wydad Athletic Club.
Tanzania – Premier League
Midfielder Rally Bwalya was heavily involved in Simba Sports Club’s 1-0 win over Dodoma FC in the week two fixture. It was Simba’s first win of the season after they were held goalless by Biashara United in the opener.
Azam FC lost 2-1 away at Polisi Tanzania FC to suffer their first loss of the 2021/22 campaign. Midfielder Paul Katema started the match. Charles Zulu started from the bench.
