ROAD TO COSTA RICA: Katongo Brimming with Confidence Ahead of Malawi Clash
Zambia Under-20 Women National Team captain Susan Evarine Katongo is confident of bagging an outright win in Friday’s Costa Rica 2022 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifier, second round, first leg match against Malawi.
Speaking during a pre-match press conference on Thursday morning, Katongo said the team had prepared adequately for the encounter.
“We are confident that we will win tomorrow’s game. The morale is very high, and everyone is willing to bring our country up,” Katongo said.
“The preparations are going on well, we are all competing because everyone wants to make the final team.”
The 18-year-old midfielder, who was one of the youngest players at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with the Copper Queens, asked fans to rally behind the young Copper Queens as they seek to go past Malawi.
“We need their support, and we are promising them that we are going to do our best to win this game, it means a lot and we need a win,” Katongo said.
Zambia will host the junior Scorchers of Malawi at Nkoloma Stadium with the match being played behind closed doors.
The qualification will present Zambia a redemption window after being knocked out by South Africa in the cancelled edition owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.
