PRESIDENT’S CORNER: Qatar Chase Very Much Alive

All football lenses this week are focused on Ndola where our Chipolopolo host the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium. There is a huge temptation to talk about the 2-1 away win in Mauritania for the Chipolopolo which gave the team a great start. However, we have a bigger assignment ahead of us on Tuesday and cannot dwell on Friday’s result. Winning against Mauritania will have greater impetus if we carry on with a positive result against Tunisia. We have more than made that point in our interaction with the players and technical bench. We expect that playing at our home ground will motivate the players to give more as they face Tunisia. We have given the technical bench the necessary ammunition to prepare the team and hope that they will reciprocate the support with good results. It is also expected that the players who are a critical cog in the nation’s football aspirations will be able to die a little for the flag. There can never be any greater honour for a player than representing one’s country.

We also urge the fans to fully support the team both on and off the pitch. The fans’ support makes the burden of wearing the national jersey less burdensome. We urge everyone to rally behind the team and give them the extra push to deliver for our motherland.

Given the challenges that the Covid-19 presents in match management, we urge everyone to adhere to the guidelines provided by the health and football authorities. We can only have 5, 000 fans in the stands due to restrictions by CAF and will expect that the control measures put in place are respected to avoid possible sanctions. Our desire would have been to see a full house at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, but we will have to wait a little longer. Thankfully, our broadcast partner ZNBC will step in to fill the void by transmitting live the match between Zambia and Tunisia.

We can only wish the team all the best on Tuesday. We encourage everyone to rally behind the team as we chase a dream world cup appearance.

Have a pleasant week and remember to observe all the Covid-19 guidelines.
