Kamanga Clears Air on Fashion Sakala
FAZ president Andrew Kamanga has explained striker Fashion Sakala’s absence from the Chipolopolo squad preparing for the back-to-back Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers next month.
Speaking when he featured on Capital FM’s Frank on Capital programme hosted by Frank Mutubila, Kamanga dispelled ongoing assertions that Sakala had been snubbed by coach Beston Chambeshi.
“When we sent the request for his release, the club (Rangers) released Fashion but he decided that he wasn’t fit enough and he has asked to be excused because he believes he cannot contribute at 100 percent because he is still recovering from an injury,” Kamanga said.
Kamanga was however confident that the team called by the Chipolopolo Technical Bench will be able to fight for places in order to achieve positive results against Mauritania on September 3.
“We have enough firepower; the team is ready and prepared adequately. We hope that FIFA will be able to resolve the Covid-19 (red-list) issues so that we have our players from England to come and play at home (against Tunisia on Tuesday).
Kamanga was also confident that the Hakainde Hichilema led government will be able to support the Association in a conducive manner.
“Government still has to invest in football. We hope that going forward, we will have an environment where government is really going to support the Association,” Kamanga said.
“Fights within football had a negative effect on potential sponsorship and we hope that if we have a quiet and peaceful environment, we will now be able to attract sponsors.”
