PRESIDENT’S CORNER: Morocco Partnership Powers Chipolopolo World Cup Dream
As the world cup qualifiers get closer, we are excited at the prospect of seeing our Chipolopolo back in action during the international window. We are even more excited that the team has been striking the right chords in the preparations with coach Beston Chambeshi and technical advisor Aljosa Asanovic forming a promising partnership for our game. Zambia will be away to Mauritania on September 3, 2021, and host Tunisia four days later at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola in back-to-back Group B matches. World Cup qualification remains our great nation’s elusive accomplishment and every qualifying cycle renews our ambitions and hopes for our Chipolopolo. The team is currently in Morocco on a 10-day courtesy of our partnership with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FMRC). We continue to leverage on our various partnerships to ensure that we expose our teams to top grade facilities in preparation for major tournaments.
The Chipolopolo’s Morocco outing is part of helping the team acclimatize to similar conditions with Mauritania and ensure that the team prepares away from possible distractions. We expect that foreign based players summoned by the technical bench will join directly in Morocco before the team heads to Nouakchott. We are encouraged by the progress being made by some of our foreign based players that we have no doubt will add value to our World Cup campaign. Our local players have also been looking hungry enough to push our flag higher in the world cup race.
We are confident that with the level of preparations we have given the team, they will be able to deliver to the nation’s expectations. Given the period of renewal that our great nation is experiencing, we have no doubt that football too will play its part in making the millions of Zambians happy. Our hearty congratulations once again to the in-coming President Mr Hakainde Hichilema, the FAZ patron, who will be sworn in tomorrow at National Heroes Stadium.
Finally, the 2021/2022 season is almost upon us and we have laid the ground for yet another explosive football journey. We urge everyone to play their part in ensuring that the 2021/2022 season is a success. We have engaged the authorities on the possibility of admitting spectators back to stadia albeit in a phased approach in respect of Covid-19 guidelines. With the incidence rate going down and the public making use of the vaccination program, we are confident that fans will be back soon.
Have a pleasant week and remember to observe all the Covid-19 guidelines.
