Chipolopolo Bench Welcomed by Government
The newly constituted Chipolopolo technical bench were officially welcomed at Government Complex by ministry of sports Permanent Secretary Dr John Phiri.
Head coach Beston Chambeshi and Technical Advisor Aljosa Asanovic were presented to government by FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala, Technical Director Lyson Zulu and Registrar Iva Lengwe.
In welcoming the duo, Phiri said government would support the technical bench’s efforts to qualify the Zambia National Team to the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
Phiri said he was confident of Zambia qualifying to the World Cup if unity and togetherness is exhibited throughout the qualifying matches.
“Our encouragement to FAZ is for them to ensure that they plan in advance and put all required activities in place so that if there is way government can come in to quickly assist, then it should be done,” Phiri said.
“Let’s work together as a team because whenever if we work in isolation, I don’t think we would achieve the desired results,” he added.
“I have every confidence that this time around, Zambia should be able to qualify (to the World Cup).”
Phiri reminded the bench of the weight of responsibility lying on their shoulders in their quest to mount a formidable challenge in the qualifiers that kickoff next month.
He expressed happiness that FAZ appointed Chambeshi as coach and hoped he will be the game changer in the Zambian coaching landscape.
And Kashala thanked government for opening its doors and embracing the newly appointed coaches.
Kashala said that the appointment of some expatriates was to help fill up some gaps in the technical aspects of the game.
The Chipolopolo will be away to Mauritania on September 1 for the opening Group B tie of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and host Tunisia four days later at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
