Buffaloes Await Opponents in Cosafa Champions League
Zambia’s envoys in the inaugural Cosafa Women’s Champions League Green Buffaloes will learn their fate on July 29 when the draws are held in South Africa.
The army sponsored side will represent Zambia at the regional showpiece which serves as a qualifier for the Total CAF Women’s Champions League to be held later this year.
Other six teams taking part in the competition to run from August 26 to September 4 are South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, Double Action Ladies (Botswana), Manzini Wanderers LFC (Eswatini), Lesotho Defence Force (Lesotho), Turu Magic (Namibia) and Black Rhino Queens FC (Zimbabwe).
“Women’s football is certainly coming on in leaps and bounds in Africa and we are excited to be playing our part in that,” Cosafa General Secretary Sue Destombes told cosafa.com
“We certainly see this as a competition that will grow much bigger in the years to come and will be a fantastic platform for our players in the region.”
According to Cosafa, the teams will be split into two groups, one with four sides and the other three, with the top two teams in each pool advancing to the semifinals.
The winner of the tournament will book their ticket to the Total CAF Women’s Champion League.
The host city for the competition will be unveiled at the draws that will take place in Johannesburg at 11:00hours and will be streamed live on www.cosafa.tv
