FIFA Instructor Spreads Exco Orientation to Copperbelt
The FIFA orientation course for newly elected FAZ executive committee members has moved to the Copperbelt where administrators from the Northern half of the country are being inducted.
The Regional Leadership Induction, under the watch of FIFA Instructor Ashford Mamelodi, is aimed at helping football administrators understand their roles in line with the revised, FIFA aligned FAZ constitution.
Elected executive committee members from the Copperbelt, North Western, Luapula, Northern and Muchinga are in attendance at Fatmols Levy Mwanawasa.
Mamelodi, who served as Botswana Football Association Chief Executive Officer for 10 years, and also spent 16 years as COSAFA general secretary, praised the Football Association of Zambia for embarking on the decentralization of football in the country.
“I admire the Football Association of Zambia’s project to decentralise because the provinces will get stronger and more independent in order for football to grow,” Mamelodi said.
“The football fields are in the provinces and that’s where our best women footballers and the Chipolopolo come from and not anywhere else. I am convinced that this project is going to make Zambian football stronger because FAZ will be stronger if provinces are stronger.”
Mamelodi, who has served in various committees in CAF, observed that inadequate development of leadership is a challenge
“The biggest problem we have on the African continent is inadequate development of leadership. We have people who have no clue in running football, so what FAZ is doing is investing in you so that we can be assured that FAZ will be in good hands because upcoming members of the Association will be developed,” Mamelodi told the participants.
FAZ president Andrew Kamanga told administrators that the course was structured to prepare them for tasks beyond the provinces.
“We will not relent in our efforts to capacitate our administrators to ensure that the game is run smoothly. All the provincial executive committee members have been granted the opportunity to attend this program, and I urge all members present here to take full advantage of the program that has the ability to uplift yourselves and the game,” Kamanga said.
Following the FIFA orientation program for Executive Committee members, a similar program which covered administrators from Lusaka, Southern, Eastern, Western and Central provinces was held.
