ABSA Cup Winners Lusaka Dynamos support Zambia Fans’ patron Makembo

The 2021 ABSA Cup winners Lusaka Dynamos have donated K100,000 to Zambia Sports Fans Association patron Pastor Peter Makembo to enable him undergo an operation on his cervical region.

Club President Hanif Adams presented Makembo, who is suffering from cervical spondylosis with canal stenosis and disc herniation C3-4-5-6-7, with a cash donation at St. John Paul II Orthopaedic Mission hospital in Lusaka Monday afternoon.

Adams, in the company of Chief Executive Officer, Francis Bwalya, and club secretary Oliver Shalala, said the gesture was a gift to the passionate football supporter.

“God gave us that give of money on Sunday when we won the finals (of the ABSA Cup against ZESCO United), so being a month of Ramadan in our religion, it’s also a month of giving and looking after other people’s welfare and it was just the right time for me to think of giving the money to help you,” Adams said.

“It was a gift from Lusaka Dynamos because this is part of the money (K600,000) that was supposed to be shared as winning bonus for the players but we thought a good gesture would be to help you recover.”

And Makembo declared shortly after receiving the donation that he cannot wait to be back in the stadium because that is where he belongs.

“This is what Zambia is looking for, when one is down , you need to lift one another, Very soon, I need to back to the terraces because that’s where I belong, I don’t belong here (at the hospital). I have work to do,” the FAZ Life Member declared.

“The World Cup qualifiers will be starting in June and I need to finish that race so that we support the nation to qualify to the World Cup.”

Football Association of Zambia Club Licencing Manager Gideon Kaumba said FAZ was humbled by the gesture shown by Lusaka Dynamos, and urged other clubs, soccer fans and football administrators that know the plight of Pastor Makembo to follow suit.

“Pastor Makembo’s works are there for all of us to see, we know what he has done for this country and he continues to do that. At his time of need, we need to join hands and support him through and through,” said Kaumba.

Makembo also confirmed that apart from Republican President, Edgar Lungu, a number of well-wishers have come through to support his cause, including Lusaka citizen, Rodgers Mugala, who donated K5,000 cash.

The drumming pastor is expected to undergo an operation on Tuesday morning.

Last weekend Lusaka Dynamos beat ZESCO United 3-1 on post-match penalties to win the 2021 ABSA Cup at Woodlands stadium in Lusaka.
