Lusaka Dynamos lift 2021 ABSA Cup
Lusaka Dynamos FC have lifted the 2021 ABSA Cup for the first time in their history after beating ZESCO United 3-1 on post match penalties at Woodlands stadium in Lusaka on Saturday.
Dynamos’ keeper Monga Ndala was the hero of the day when he kept out three penalties and scored the winner in the shootout win after the two sides finished goalless on normal time.
In what could be described a scrappy final, both chances were shy on goal with Winston Kalengo, Enock Sakala all guilty of missing chances while Collins Sikombe and Marvin Jere were at fault for the Elite side.
Dynamos finished the last 18 minutes with 10 men when defender Paul Banda was sent for an early shower by Janny Sikazwe for his hacking for kkow defender Fackson Kapumbu.
With a few minutes remaining on the clock, Sakala was left clear in goal but could not connect the cross with his header.
Tady Etekiama, Collins Sikombe and Ndala converted their spot kicks while Emmanuel Chabula and Ocean Mushure missed for Dynamos.
On the other hand, only defender Adrian Chama converted kicks while Tafadzwa Rusike, Fackson Kapumbu and Bruce Musakanya missed.
The result ensured that Dynamos scooped the K600, 000 prize money for winning the tournament while ZESCO settled for K250, 000.
Dynamos’ coach Wedson Nyirenda won the K25, 000 rich Coach of the Tournament, a similar prize that ZESCO United midfielder Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba picked for winning the Player of the Tournament.
The K15, 000 prized man of the match award went to Dynamos’ central defender Mothusi Cooper.
