FAZ, ZMA launch COVID-19 guidelines for Provincial leagues
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and the Zambia Medical Association (ZMA) have today launched the COVID-19 safety guidelines for provincial leagues.
During the launch the FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala urged all provincial football stakeholders to prepare adequately and adapt to new normal ways of organising matches in the wake of the COVID-19.
Kashala says the move will ensure continuity of playing football under the new normal. FAZ and the ZMA have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that provides guidelines for managing football under the New Normal.
Kashala was speaking at Football House in Lusaka during the launch of the FAZ COVID-19 Safety Guidelines for Provincial Football Leagues.
“FAZ decided to engage ZMA to provide technical assistance in administration and management of COVID–19 in the provincial leagues because we believed and still believe that this will minimize the lapses in COVID -19 prevention and control thereby reducing related fatalities among the football family,” says Kashala.
“I wish to thank the team of experts for producing an effective document for testing protocols and overall monitoring, which complements the vigilant day-to-day efforts of FAZ and ZMA to establish and maintain healthy environments in which our footballers can train and compete from.”
ZMA Secretary General, Dr. Masiku Phiri commended the FAZ executive committee for the major milestone attained of developing the first ever sports protocol in the country.
“ZMA strongly believes that the Football Association of Zambia executive will go further to educate the grassroots on these guidelines using holistic and targeted approaches so that we are together on the same pages,” says Dr. Phiri.
“We also believe that this manual is a step of the many to come and the scientific community such as ZMA has the expertise to the local challenges that we may face in the country.
In January this year, FAZ and ZMA signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ZMA aimed at managing the FAZ COVID-19 testing programme in provincial leagues.
