Nkana Confident of Demolishing Pyramids
Nkana caretaker coach Kaunda Simonda says his squad will rise above its poor domestic form to post a victory over emerging Egyptian giants Pyramids FC in Wednesday’s Group D CAF Confederation Cup tie.
And skipper Richard Ocran says the team has a perfect opportunity to qualify to the quarterfinals of the continental competition by defeating Pyramids whom they are tied on six points with the Egyptians enjoying a healthier goal difference.
During a pre-match press conference at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Simonda said Nkana has prepared well for the Egyptians and will motivated to reap maximum points.
“The game we are playing tomorrow will be a big match for us in that it will be a game that will give us hope to play in the quarterfinal of the CAF. We have prepared well; we have played them before and saw how they were playing,” he said.
“For now, it is a game that we should try and win. Everything has been said, every player knows what is at stake.”
He added: “The game that we will play tomorrow, we must be very careful, we do not have to allow them to score. We must see that we are doing everything possible to manage the game if we have a chance to score, we have to score, it will be an important goal for us.”
Simonda said Nkana were playing good football despite struggling to win matches.
“We have recorded poor results, but we are playing good football. The game is a difficult game knowing that we are all at six points and whoever wins has the advantage of playing the quarters. Things are not easy, but we are fighting, we have put our problems behind,” he said.
And Ocran said off pitch troubles will not count when the team steps on the pitch against Pyramids.
“We have six points and have a big opportunity to go to the quarterfinal…we are not doing well, and we are not happy but now we have to put our problems behind. When we meet tomorrow, we have to put our problems,” he said.
“We have to know that we cannot carry our problems onto the pitch. We have to be prepared to fight.”
Nkana host Pyramids in the penultimate Group D match at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium with both sides tied on six points.
Runaway leaders Raja Casablanca are away to whipping boys Namungo who are on zero points with Nkana travelling to Morocco in the final match.
The game will be played behind closed doors but ZNBC will beam that match live at 15:00 hours CAT.
