Wina Rallies Financial Support for Olympic Bound Copper Queens
Republican Vice-president Inonge Wina has issued a rallying call to the corporate world and other stakeholders to help support the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Copper Queens.
Speaking when the committee of eminent women led Charity Lumpa that is dubbed ‘Tokyo Olympic Fundraising Committee’ paid a courtesy call on her, Wina said the Copper Queens deserved all the support in view of the splendid performance that they continue to exhibit.
Last year, the Copper Queens made history by qualifying to the Olympic Games for the first time in the country’s history after beating West Africans Cameroon in a two-legged tie.
Zambia grabbed Africa’s only automatic slot while Cameroon has a chance with a two-legged play-off with Chile on the cards.
Lumpa was accompanied by Ambassador Ndiyoi Mutiti, Dr. Tukiya Mabula, Priscilla Nkanza and Brenda Kunda.
The Copper Queens have kicked off preparations for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (to be played in 2021) and are set to play South Africa in an international friendly on 10 April before facing Kenya later this month.
