We Feel Your Pain -Mwepu
Chipolopolo midfielder Enock Mwepu says the team needs the support of fans in the aftermath of qualification failure to the Cameroon 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Red Bull Salzburg midfielder says the players feel the pain the fans are going through but should not give up on the team but push them to pursue World Cup qualification.
Mwepu said the team needs the supporters more at this hour especially when the squad has shown a lot of improvement in the last two games they have played together.
“We feel their pain, their support really makes us strong, if they throw us away then we will not pull ourselves and get there,” he said.
“We need them in this moment, if they can support us, definitely we as players will take up the challenge and make them proud. We just pray that they keep supporting us and we are going to give them what they deserve which is good results.”
Mwepu said that with Africa Cup qualification out of the way, the team will reorganize itself and mount a formidable Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup chase.
“I believe we can qualify to the World Cup because we have a group that is trying to work extra hard, a group that is passionate, a group that knows what lies ahead,” he said.
“We have learnt so much in these failures to qualify to the AFCON, we know the pain in our hearts. I see a new team that will take us to another level, only if everybody has the right mentality, showing the character of winning, shows good attitude on and off the pitch, I think this is going to take us to the World Cup.”
He said the team needs refining to ensure that it is in the best condition to qualify to the World Cup.
“Our focus is to have stability in the team and keep the consistency. That will help us qualify to the World Cup,” he said.
Zambia drew 3-3 with Algeria and beat Zimbabwe 2-0 in the just ended FIFA Window that concluded the race for the Cameroon 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
