Sinkala Jets in For Algeria Clash
South Africa based midfielder Nathan Sinkala has joined camp ahead of Thursday’s crucial Cameroon 2021 (to be played in 2022) Africa Cup of Nations encounter against Algeria at National Heroes Stadium.
Sinkala who stars for Premier Soccer League outfit Stellenbosch arrived at 13:30 hours aboard Airlink and becomes the third foreign based player to join Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic’s side.
Others already in camp are the Simba SC players Clatous Chama and Rally Bwalya.
The TP Mazembe duo of Kabaso Chongo and Tandi Mwape are expected in the evening while more players will join camp on Sunday.
“Firstly, I just want to say thank you to the coach and the technical bench for considering me and calling me back to the national team. I am ready and looking forward for the game,” he said.
I think as you are aware Algeria is a big team, we just have to remain focussed and work as a team because in the first leg they beat us. We just have to use the home advantage.”
He added: “The two games are very important because we have been out for two AFCONs, so we just have to give all we have in these coming games.”
The 2012 AFCON winner said he will use his experience to encourage the younger players to rise to the occasion and beat Algeria.
“I think being an experienced player, I just have to encourage them and push them so that we can carry the day,” he said.
He also urged the fans to support the team on Thursday even without being in terraces owing to a Covid-19 induced ban.
“The fans just have to be there with us and pray for us. Come Tuesday we will give them what they want,” he said.
Zambia hosts Algeria on Thursday at National Heroes Stadium at 21:00 hours before heading to Zimbabwe for the March 29 final Group H match.
