Chipolopolo Stop City of Lusaka in build-up match
The local assemblage of local players wound up their first weekly session ahead of the back-to-back Group H Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Algeria and Zimbabwe with a 2-1 win in a practice match against City of Lusaka at Woodlands Stadium.
Coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic’s local guns assembled on Sunday and have had a three-day camp.
With the ABSA Cup quarterfinals on this weekend, the players participating in the tournament have been given an opportunity to return to their clubs to prepare.
In the practice match, Micho gave all the players a run with Paul Katema and Moses Phiri scoring for Zambia while George Chikambala netted for Jelusic Vaselin’s side.
The Chipolopolo will regroup on Sunday for the final stretch that will see foreign based players join camp in the final stages of the preparations.
Micho has summoned 33 players in his provisional squad for the March 25 home clash with Algeria and Zimbabwe four days later.
He has named 17 foreign based players with 16 local based players.
With foreign based players unavailable Micho has roped in a host of local players to fill the void as part of keeping tabs on all fronts.
Zambia sits at the bottom of Group H with three points with Botswana in third position on four points.
Algeria sits atop with 10 points while Zimbabwe has five points.
Top teams will qualify to the Cameroon 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (to be played in January 2022).
