Micho names squad ahead of Algeria, Zimbabwe ties

The head coach of the national team, Chipolopolo Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has summoned 33 players for the back-to-back Cameroon 2021 (to be played in 2022) Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Algeria and Zimbabwe.

Micho has recalled in-form Buildcon striker Buildcon whose prolific form instrumental in Zambia’s chase for a world case chase in 2018 that included back-to-back victories over Algeria.

Mwila has scored five goals, including four in his first five games since joining them in December 2020.

The Serb has also TP Mazembe defender Kabaso Chongo with the red-hot pair of Enock Mwepu and Patson Daka headlining the calls ups.

Mwepu and Daka campaign for Redbull Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga where they have become regular participants in the UEFA Champions League.

Micho has also summoned Roderick Kabwe who has been away from the Chipolopolo set up for over two years.

Zambia will host Algeria on March 25 before trekking to Harare four days later for the back-to-back encounters in the Group H final qualifiers.

Algeria tops the group on 10 points while Zimbabwe lies second with five.

The Zebras of Botswana have four points while Zambia lies bottom with three points. Victory in the last two games could salvage Zambia’s campaign and earn the Chipolopolo a spot at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Micho’s lads will commence a local camp this weekend with foreign based players expected in the final stages of the preparations in line with FIFA rules.
