Zambia maintain 90th place in FIFA ranking
Zambia have maintained their 90th place in the latest FIFA/Coca Cola world rankings released on Thursday in Zurich, Switzerland.
With 1265 points Zambia share 90th place with Congo Brazaville who climbed by one sport. They are also placed 20th on the African continent.
Senegal is the highest ranked African, while Belgium are the best ranked team in the world, and France are in second place.
Zambia’s opponents in the Group H Africa Cup of Nations Algeria stand in third position in Africa and 31st on the continent.
The Chipolopolo will host Algeria on March 24 next month before heading to Harare four days later to conclude the race to the Cameroon 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Meanwhile, the Copper Queens of Zambia have continued their march upwards moving to 95th position in the world rankings.
Zambia’s Women team has risen to 11th on the continental block marking a rapid rise in five months when they stood outside the top 100 in the world.
The Copper Queens grabbed Africa’s only automatic qualification slot to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Zambia beat Cameroon to qualify to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games losing 3-2 away before dispatching the indomitable lionesses 2-1 to qualify on away goals rule.
