President Edgar Lungu has congratulated the Zambia under-20 boys national team for winning the Cosafa championship. In a statement issued by State House press aide Isaac Chipampe, President Lungu football was a powerful tool for unity. Zambia beat South Africa 3-0 this afternoon at Nkoloma Stadium to lift their 12th Cosafa crown.
A brace from Jonathan Munalula and a Francisco Mwepu goal handed Zambia a record 12th title. Full Statement Saturday, 14th December 2019—–His Excellency, Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia, is delighted that Zambia Under 20 National Team has won the 2019 COSAFA Cup after beating South Africa in the final. President Lungu says he is immensely impressed with the performance of the junior National Teams, especially after the Under 17 equally won their tournament in October this year.
“It is a great achievement by the young lads and their coaches. Let me congratulate them and wish them success in future tournaments,” the President said. The President hoped the senior National Team can take a leaf from the junior teams and qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations finals. The President is also happy that Zambians thronged Nkoloma Stadium to support the boys. “Football is a uniting force, especially when we win. So let’s have more of such victories,” the President said.
